Special Guest for Dogs on Thursday

For this week's DOT post, the spotlight is, unfortunately, on Flynn (aka Flynny, Mr. Flynny McFlynn). I (sadly) don't have a picture of him, but here he is on a poster hanging by our Office Manager's desk.

Flynn is our unofficial official mascot here at work. He is a big ol' bear of a Golden Retriever who is just 6 years young. He is a perfect, well-behaved gentleman, but still very much a puppy. He even still pees a little bit when he is excited about seeing you. I can't tell you how many times this sweet boy has "anointed" my shoes. He even "christened" the carpet in the library at work. (Shhh, don't tell my boss.) He hangs out during the day in the pottery studio with his daddy. He is loved by everyone who works here.

I found out this morning that Sweet Flynny has bone cancer. It is in an advanced stage. He has been given six months to live. Needless to say we are all in shock. How could this happen? Not Flynny! Not now. He's too young.

Unfortunately, I know exactly what his mom and dad are going through. If anyone has any spare happy thoughts or healing vibes, please send them his way. His mom and dad are going to have a rough couple of months ahead. Fortunately, they will guard against his suffering, and make the hardest decision in the world when it is Flynn's time. His mom asked me this morning, "How do you know..."?

I just told her that she will know.

Flynn will tell her.

She will know.

I type with tears in my eyes... oh my, poor Flynny. Please give Flynn a hug for me... and then give his Mom one too... from the crazy dog lady in NH.....who's getting stares from her coworkers while she cries at her desk.

I hate knowing. I had to know twice in one month. Brown candles go well with prayers for animal healing, so I'll put both at the top of my to-do list, followed by "send hugs".

So sorry for Flynn but at least his parents will be able to spend some quality time with him in the next few months. We'd have given anything for a six month warning when we found out Riley had cancer. He had hidden it so well that he was seriously ill all of a sudden and no amount of money or veterinary skill could give us more than a week and he spent a lot of that at the emergency hospital. I'm sad for Flynn's family, but they will at least have time to adjust rather than facing the sudden and very unexpected loss of a beloved pet that we went through. I'm not lessening the impact of their own experience, just saying it would be a great deal worse if it happened so suddenly like it did to us.

I am heartily sorry for Flynn and all who love him. I hope they are able to really pack in the love and quality time...

Life is so unfair sometimes.
