Instead of having a big ol' pity party for myself because I was not at
Sock Summit this weekend, I decided to have a Sock-Summit-type-day of my own. Yesterday I went to
Woolbearers! Every time I research yarn on Ravelry, there is a little box that says "Buy this yarn from a local store" and has a link to Woolbearers. I've been saying I've got to look into this "local" shop, and yesterday was the day!

Turns out, it's not all that local. It took a little over an hour to get there, but that's OK, since my sister was driving while I was knitting. It was a lovely shop, with helpful but not
too helpful (know what I mean?) people. I browsed around as long as I could, as it was pretty hot in there, but am so pleased with my purchases:

I've been wanting the pattern for the Jojoland
Swirl Shawl for a very long time, and am so happy to finally have it. I even did a trial swatch, and (after much frogging and cursing) think I have it down now.

I also got yarn for three pair of socks, and a couple of HiyaHiya needles. I've been wanting to try them for a while, as they appear to be better made than Knit Picks, but (much) cheaper than Addi Turbos.
My sister put her time to good use. too, and bought this book for me!

What a good sister! I promised her I would make a pair of socks from the book for her - just waiting for her to choose the pattern.

I've been there a couple times! It's within an hour for me, too.
I bought that pattern in July. What yarn are you going to use?
I LOVE Hiya Hiya needles. They're my new favorite.
You're a very kind sister, but obviously, that's true of your sister too.
Wow, what a neat shawl. Be sure to show us the progress along the way.
Its going to watch your progress on that gorgeous shawl!
:)
It's my favorite lys although it takes almost a half hour for me. There is only one other store left and that's in Haddonfield and they tend to be rather snooty and it's not an enjoyable place. I love woolbearers.
I have that pattern too - need to decide on the yarn. maybe we should coordinate a knit-a-long over on Rav?
Love the sock yarns and Hiya-Hiya needles are my all time favorite for sock knitting. Enjoy. g
What a GREAT sister! Love your purchases... I must get out and explore some more "local" yarn shops that I've yet to get too...
I would drive an hour for good yarn. That blue looks amazing!
Ooh, Hiya Hiya! I'm after some of their little 8" circulars. I'll check them out when I go to Woolbears - they have a knit night on the 1st Friday of every month. The next is September 4th, so that'll be my first trip there.
For my sock Summit goodies (didn't get there, sigh), I picked up some ST-1 and ST-2 Socks that Rock from Blue Moon. Lovely!
Yay, a field trip. I love Jojoland. Love.
