After a bit, Tara and Cooper wandered off, but not Emma. She was sure there was something on the other side of the fence.
She was right! This little guy is the second turtle the dogs have found so far this summer. We find so many turtles around here, I think we should call this place "Turtle Acres"! This turtle is extra special though. Do you see the bits of red on his shell?
That's not some ordinary turtle. He has remnants of Maybelline "Red Caviar" nail polish! Longtime readers might remember that I started numbering the turtles last year, and this guy is good ol' Number 5! Check out this post to see his pictures from last summer. This is the first turtle ever to come back and visit after getting a number on his back! Very exciting! I gave him a fresh coat of nail polish...

And last weekend my girls were telling me that turtles are close to being endangered. I haven't seen one in years. You must have a good spot to keep seeing them.
Yay!! You know, I haven't seen a turtle in ages, and I remember finding them all the time in my childhood...
Awww! How awesome! I remember numbering them as a kid, but never got a return visit. My kids witnessed a lady help a turtle cross the road yesterday. They were very intrigued and talked about it for at least 30 minutes!
Glad to see #5 visited again... how cool!
Every year about this time we get turtles in the yard. Tsar likes to pick them up and bring them to the house. I have to be on the alert to rescue them and return them to the woods. I should start numbering them.
how cool...old #5 came back for a visit....lol.... your dogs are cute...
We don't have turtles, but we do have frogs. I don't know why, since our property doesn't have any water nearby! I hope #5 comes back to visit soon.
but this reminds me of a prank my oldest son's best friend pulled in high school about 9 years ago. He released baby chicks with numbers on tiny labels on them: 1, 2, 3 and 5. The janitors spent a long time hunting for poor #4!
Wow! That is exciting. I'm wondering if the turtles snap at the dogs? Happy DOT!
I remember #5! He must have appreciated the first manicure, so returned for another!
Very cool that he came back. Wonder of the others will to.
Thanks Emma for finding the turtle!
I think it's so cool that one came back!
Doggie butts are acceptable. :) hehee
I love the picture of the doggie backs - cute to see them all together and so interested in something :)
Love your turtle story. We live next to a marsh and get some pretty big ones from time to time. I like your little one!
I'm so glad number 5 came back!!
