Dinnertime in Britknitterville

For this week's Dogs on Thursday, I thought I would share a typical dinnertime in Britknitterville. Last night we had black bean quesadillas. Cooper likes to "help"... a lot. Here he is checking out the ingredients.

He is saying "Hey - is that cheese fresh? I'd better check."

"What is the expiration date on those tortillas?" Notice that horizontal reach. Impressive, huh?
Emma is hiding behind mommy's legs. She doesn't want to be too close to Cooper's bad behaviour, but close enough to share in anything that he might be able to get down off of the counter.
In that split second when I was snapping a picture of Emma, Cooper manages to reach the tortillas...
...and a tug-of-war ensues. Fortunately Tara offers to be the referee, and of course to share in any spoils that might result.

No more tortillas!
Don't worry, though. Cooper managed to grab some of the finished quesadillas off of a dinner plate and inhale them before we could get them out of his mouth. Success!

I just can't discipline this sweet boy. Before you judge me, keep in mind that Cooper was probably tied out on a chain and brought the occasional bowl of dry kibble for the first nine years of his life. He was seriously malnourished when we found him this past June. Also keep in mind that I'm a push-over...

On a somewhat related note, a mere three weeks from today is Christmas, and every year we host breakfast for seven people. Omelettes, bacon & sausage, (I know...meat in a vegetarian household...the horrors! But Uncle John is 84 years old, and he looks forward to the Christmas breakfast meat...) hash browns, french toast, quiche, fruit, etc. Can you just imagine how much Cooper will like his first Christmas in Britknitterville?

Smooooch to you and your pack! Suddenly, Sissy and I seem to have it together. She's never served herself while we're IN the kitchen, so hey! she's a good girl, right?

That made my day. I'm so glad Cooper has you.

Boy, that Cooper has you wrapped right around his big toe (dogs have toes right?). Knowing his childhood was a rough one makes it easier to spoil him.

Cooper is SO funny. I am a little surprised at his boldness; my kids tend to do this kind of thing when no one is looking. But he's just right there, with that long, long reach. :-)

My little Remy was a stray, and even though she's been with us for 8 years now, she still is a chow hound, never quite believing food will really come back to her.

Sounds like he found a fun house for him. I have admit that Jackjack has sniffed the counters while we are home and has gotten thing but never when I'm in the kitchen!! Go Cooper! I plan to hide this post from Jackjack though. heheeh

Have a wonderful Christmas Cooper and enjoy all the treats!! :)

I'm so glad to hear of another "push-over"..lol Cooper is lucky to have you and I bet he'll really enjoy Christmas Breakfast!! My girls get all the holidays treats too, though yesterday after getting home my uncut fudge with saranwrap on it had claw marks, so glad Lady didn't get into it other than leaving a warning..defintely set it up higher today.
Happy DoT to Britknitterville!!

Those photos of Cooper trying to reach across the counter are priceless!

Love the pictures, it sounds like a match made in doggy heaven! Cooper is very blessed to have you for his doggy mum. And so is Tara (she is sly, that one, the rewards with none of the risks)!

Have a great day!

I'm so glad Cooper found you and will live out his life in comfort with good food to eat and anything extra he can steal.

I have some counter-surfers, too. I've learned to put thing out of reach, but Rob forgets and the dogs get lucky.

Cooooppppeeeeerrrrr!

He's an expert counter surfer. Too bad there aren't competitions you could enter him in!

Luca always makes sure he is not implicated in any bad behavior. If one of the other dogs is in trouble Luca will sit perfectly straight and still and stare at me. I swear he's thinking "See how bad they are and how GOOD I am!?"

What a cutie pie doggie, just like mine who take every opportunity to get some goodies while the humans are in the kitchen doing something :)

I love that photo essay and that Cooper is so well loved. Mine would help themselves too, but since they've never been abused - they get disciplined (and then given the treat!)

Yea to all of you for finding Cooper.

By the way - I don't have an email for you. Abby is having an MRI today that will hopefully be conclusive. g

LOL! Poor Cooper he just doesn't understand does he.
I think he may mellow out in his food stealing as time goes on being apart of such a loving and wonderful family, but I am sure not before your Christmas breakfast.
Good luck to you.
P.S. Elise who knows better and has never experienced malnutrition would totally do that Cooper trick if her arms were long enough! But seriously though, impressive arm reach!

Cooper's first REAL Christmas is going to be spectacular for sure!

If only you could put an apron on the boy and teach him to cook, then enter him on Top Chef, win the grand prize, get him set up in a top resturant and sit back and let him become your retirement plan....
